| Mixed pro-am, El Rompido, Spain, March 2010
We all left the UK from various airports around the country all looking forward to escaping the poor weather here and the pro-am at El Rompido in Spain. As I got off the plane the weather was nice and warm, if a little overcast and all the teams were looking forward to a good week of competitions on nice fast greens!
On our 1st day we played a Texas Scramble and we split up all the teams which was a great way to get everyone to mix around and get to know some of the other people playing. For the amateurs it was also a chance to play with one of the other professionals.
What a great day and I am pleased to say one of my teams won, John Jane and Tony!!!
Day 2 was a practice round over the tricky south course. It was great for everyone to get to see both courses before the real competition started and for the pros it was a chance to decide how to play their teams. I feel it is so important to get the right mix of people and to see who plays well with whom!
Day 3 we played the 3rd round over the north course in just great weather, where everyone - well just about everyone - had their shorts on which is one of the reasons we come out to Spain in the spring ie. To play golf in sunshine!. Well my team of Rod, Sue, Roger, Janet Sid and Anna played well and we scored 154 stableford points. The way the scoring works is that the BEST 4 scores on each hole from all 7 players count for the team. This is a great way to get everyone involved. The pro’s play a nine hole drop back so we get to play with all of the team and of course we were all extremely happy to be leading by 8 points!!
Day 4 was the day of rest in the best weather of the week about +23. All the teams did different things, some went for a bike ride, others rested and had some lunch, others went shopping and of course some took this time to practice. Me well, I went for a run and then to the gym before going to Islantilla with Brian and john to make sure everything would be just right for the ladies pro-am in April... then a nice lunch!
Day 5 round 2 of the pro am over the tricky south course. To me it is most certainly a course of very different 9 holes, and I think the back 9 is a course where you really need to use your head and plot your way round. I am please to say my fab team did it again and we had another 154 points to lead by 8 from Carole’s team going in to the last day. Everyone has a story to tell about their round and everyone left many shots out there... including yours truly!
Day 6 our final day, and my Birthday! Everyone was so kind, and I got some nice prezzies and cards so a big thank you to them all, I had a great day!

My team — the winners!
