ladies' pro-am, Islantilla, Spain, April 2010
All I can say is thank goodness!!! I really did think we would not get this one off and running.. You’ll remember that Icelandic volcano! Well it could not have erupted at a worse time for the ladies pro-am and certainly caused a lot of worry about whether people would get to spain in time or even at all! However the skies cleared just in time and I am so pleased we got everyone in by 6pm Thursday night. We had girls coming in from Holland, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, and of course England, it was such a relief to see everyone get here safely.
So our first day was a practice round over the Blue and Green course, in fantastic weather, I guess over the week the temperature was between +24 and +32... too hot for some but just great for the girls to play in their shorts. For Tina’s team from Norway it was their first time on real grass this year, so they were all happy. In the evening we presented the Pro's to all the ladies, as this year we had around 25 new amateurs and 1 pro new to the event, so it was good to let everyone see what all the pro's look like, and to hear them say a few words on themselves... always good for a laugh!

The next day we played a Texas Scramble over the Green and Yellow. Now this is the time everyone is mixed up, so all the am's get to play with 2 other ladies not in their team and another pro. This is a great day as everyone gets to mix up and have a nice time.
The winners were Jayne Collins Lynne Sutton and Rae Webster, with pro Emma Weeks.
We then had a day off where most people took time to grab some lunch down at Islantilla beach front and then headed to the pool to catch some rays!
A nice relaxing day was had by all before the gun went off and the real tournament started. I was defending my trophy, but not with my team from last year. This time I had a great group of ladies from the Wiltshire area: Lolly, Judith, Lynne, Ann, Denise and the posh one Eileen!! We had a great time and our 1st round was 159 and we were joint 3rd, which I was so pleased with. My girls were (and I am sure they won’t mind me saying) the oldest group there (but I must say my old girls really knew how to party!!!) Leading after round 1 was Ali Gray’s team on a fab 162.

My team
That Monday night we had a karaoke set up in the bar. What a laugh, everyone got involved and had a right good time singing and dancing, the girls ROCKED!!!
Round 2 was in the real heat +32 and my girls struggled a little in the heat, me too I have to say, and we slipped down a little, but still had a great time and kept smiling over the tough Blue and Yellow course. Ali's team scored 158 to keep the lead going into the final round and Corina's team moved up from second from the bottom to second from top.
So day 3, there was still all to play for over the Green and Yellow course. Everyone had a better day as it was not so hot and even though it was around +30 there was a nice breeze coming off the sea. My girls and me did our best to catch up, but alas we had no chance catching Ali and her girls. Another great 164 was had by Ali's girls, Jayne, Tracy, Liz, Debby, Marie, and Di... a great score, and a big well done to them!
Everyone had a fab week in the sun meeting and playing golf with like-minded ladies. This to me is one of the best weeks in my golfing year, it's fun to spend time with some of my best golfing mates, the Pro's, Tina Selstad, Sarah Burnell, Kerry Knowles, Ally Johns, Emma Weeks, Ashley Bergwerff, Corina de Jong... and of course the 2010 winner Ali Gray!!! Thanks girls you all did a great job, and I look forward to 2011 when it's our 10th anniversary, so should be a good one, and of course a big thanks to all our lovely teams of ladies.
Last but not least Brian Kinght CEO of Tarleton Golf who I am sure aged a few years with the worry of getting everyone there due to the cancellations of flights because of the volcano, and John Barns. These 2 guys look after all the ladies and make sure everything goes smoothly. As always they did a fabulous job... I am lucky I get to work with them, and it’s fun too... so thank you both very much, we all had a great time, and cannot wait for 2011...
You boys ROCK!!!!!!
